Early Childhood Education
Mission:
The program includes both classroom instruction and practice in WTI's
licensed child care facility. Students have the opportunity to plan and conduct
developmentally appropriate activities with infants, toddlers, and pre-school
age children.
Description:
The curriculum covers child growth and development, health,
safety, nutrition, the detection and treatment of child abuse and neglect, and
the rules and regulations which govern the child care industry. Students will
receive Part I and Part II State Mandated Child Care Training in order to
prepare for the State Competency Examinations.
Unique Requirements:
Specific Requirements Necessary to Earn the Early Childhood
Professional Certificate (ECPC) from the State of Florida:

You must be 18 years of age or older

You must have a high school diploma or a GED
-
You must complete a local, state, and Federal background
screening before working with children
(The fingerprint card will be given to you during orientation)
Note: The foregoing requirements are not required to
enroll in the Early Childhood Education class at WTI.
However, you must meet these requirements in order to be eligible to receive
your State certification.
The class will include the following requirements:
- You must obtain a CPR/First Aid Certificate ( you may do this while
taking the test)
- You must complete 480 clock hours working directly with children 0-5
years of age and 120 clock hours of class work
- You must pass the 30 hour test and the 10 hour DAP preschool test
- You must complete the Special Needs class
- You must complete the on-line course in Early Literacy
- You must complete a professional portfolio
- You must complete an activity file
