Nursing Assistant - Long Term Care

Mission:

It is the mission of this program to provide the highest quality academic and technical education to prepare students for employment as nursing assistants in long-term care facilities.

Description:

Nurse aides assist patients with tasks of daily living, take patients’ temperatures, pulse rate, blood pressure, respiration rate. They may help patients walk, get in and out of bed, escort them to examination rooms, and observe patients’ physical, mental and emotional conditions.

Unique Requirements:

Entry into this program requires the student to have minimum basic skills at the following grade levels: mathematics 10.0, language 10.0, and reading 10.0.

Students must be capable of working with a variety of tools and implements, including specific medical tools and implements.

Students must be capable of learning and using technology systems.

Student must have the ability to acquire and use information, and the ability to identify, organize and use resources appropriately.

Students must be able to work cooperatively with others, in a sometimes stressful environment.

Job Wages:

The Florida Department of Labor reports the range of wages that can be reasonably expected is $18,180 to $24,160 per year. Workforce Florida’s Targeted Occupation List for Region 10 reports hourly wages for medical assistants starting at $10.25, with a mean wage of $12.30.
